About Alison Lawson - Orthoptist & treatment Creator
Alison devoted her life to researching and finding a solution for Visual Dyslexia.
In 1988 using the LASD device , Treatment for Visual Dyslexia was begun.
Alison Lawson's life-changing programme has continued worldwide for 37 Years.
Through years of research, and with over 60 Years of experience as an Orthoptist in Australia and England, Alison Lawson developed a solution to treat Visual Dyslexia. The result is a simple, safe, 10-Session programme which is a profoundly successful treatment for learning difficulties.
With a background that includes becoming head of the Orthoptics Clinic at at The Royal Children’s Hospital Camperdown, and a qualified Trainer of Orthoptists, Alison's work also included private practice with Ophthalmologists and Eye Surgeons. Alison was uniquely qualified to specialise in children’s learning difficulties and she undertook extensive research in the Visual Cortex section of the brain.
It became clear to Alison, that her clients who struggled with reading (which could include reversals of letters and words, and/or words moving on the page), were found to have a significant issue in common: a moving focal point in one of their eyes. This moving focal point causes the Visual Cortex section of the brain to respond with the Dyslexia symptoms that make learning, reading, and writing difficult for these clients.
This led Alison to develop her very simple, safe, and effective medical treatment for Visual Dyslexia, and in 1979 she patented a machine known as the Lawson Anti-Suppression Device (LASD), which all Alison Lawson Therapists use in treatments with their clients today.
Having devoted her life’s work to helping sufferers of Dyslexia, Alison Lawson sadly passed away on the 10th of April, 2017.
Today, Alison's work continues to change lives as the technology she invented thrives through the important work of all the Alison Lawson Centre's in Australia, New Zealand, England, and Germany.
